choose the right martial arts school ?
Benefit Today, more people work in offices, have longer working hours, use advanced technology and automation, and are required to move less than ever before. This environment has created a population that moves less and eats more. The result is catastrophic: an overweight and deconditioned population with increased incidents of of injury and health issues, including low back pain, knee injuries, chronic diseases, and musculoskeletal injuries. Recent research reveals that approximately 33% of adults and 15% of children are estimated to be obese. The health and fitness benefits from progressive martial arts training and good nutrition helps address the challenges of a society that has more structural imbalances and susceptibility to injury than ever before. An integrated martial arts and fitness curriculum offers students improved cardio-respiratory efficiency, serum lipid adaptations, metabolic efficiency, increased muscular strength, increased bone density, decreased body fat, increased lean muscle mass, and increased power, endurance, flexibility, speed, agility, and balance. Martial arts and fitness training are quickly becoming less of a luxury and more of a necessity in todays society. Martial arts is a lifetime study, and will help us all to be more safe, healthy, and fit for life! A survey of students, parents, and various web site articles compiled the following list of some of the benefits of martial arts training: Physical benefits: self-defense co-ordination flexibility strength endurance improved health: diminishes risk of obesity decreases risk of some cancers decreases risk of hypertension can help guard against osteoporosis Fu Kien Wingchun offers physical benefits above and beyond other sports, because the skills and techniques practiced exercise the entire body. Hand techniques, for example, involve the muscles of the legs, hip, and torso as well as the shoulders, chest, back, and arms. Kicking techniques involve the muscles of the legs, abdomen, stomach, sides, and back. The simple act of striking a target involves relaxing and then tensing almost all the muscles of the body. Since techniques are practiced on both right and left sides, muscle imbalances do not occur; the strength, co-ordination, flexibility, and agility of both sides of the body are improved. Ball sports, such as baseball, basketball, tennis, football, etc. tend to favor the player's already strong side and result in even further physical imbalance. Fu Kien Wingchun does not contribute to that weakness, but effectively eliminates it. Behavioral benefits: respect achievement calmness teamwork & co-operation healthy competition healthy socialization stress relief can improve school grades far lower risk of drug/alcohol abuse less likelihood of smoking Mental benefits: self-confidence self-control self-discipline self-respect self-improvement improved focus & concentration healthier body image fun character building the exhilaration and sense of achievement that comes from working hard to master new skills perseverance |
